Richard Oirshot

Richard is a member of the Institute For Turnaround, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner. He has a wealth of experience gained from over 25 years of turnaround, restructuring and recovery work across a broad range of business sectors.


He qualified as an accountant with Grant Thornton at which time he moved into corporate recovery including a period on secondment within the specialised lending area of HSBC handling problem corporate loans. He, then, became a partner in Smith and Williamson, moving to Hacker Young and then PKF dealing with Insolvency, restructuring and turnaround assignments throughout the 1990’s.

He joined Barclays Ventures in 2004, building a successful turnaround investment portfolio from a standing start and developing Barclays' approach in debt to equity restructuring. During this period he successfully completed over 35 investments. Of these he worked closely with the Boards of 17 Companies through the restructuring process and then with the management of the business and the implementation of the turnaround strategy. 

Since 2010 he has focused on turnaround assignments specialising in advising and hands on implementation of business turnarounds for stakeholders, banks and private equity firms. He has been successful in creating value from underperforming businesses by working closely with and mentoring management teams through challenging times.

Richard has particular expertise in advising underperforming professional firms.  He works alongside current tax advisors and investors and can advise on restructuring, either with or without formal insolvency proceedings.  He is client-centred and focused on achieving optimum results.
